McCONNELL, Gareth.
Wherever You Go.
(Poole): (LighthouseCentre for the Arts), (2002).

4to (240 × 192 mm), pp.[58] (inc. 1 folding). 32 colour photographs. Text by Charlotte Cotton. Design by Tom Hingston Studio. Grey endpapers. Colour photo-illustrated paper-covered boards. Fine.

First edition. These portraits were taken in the bedrooms of young people living at Quay Foyer in Poole, Dorset, which provides accommodation together with education and training opportunities for disadvantaged sixteen to twenty-five-year-olds. In her essay, Charlotte Cotton writes, ‘Gareth McConnell’s engagement with the residents created a pause - long enough for a portrait to be made, away from the noise and chaos of this place - for this delicate time of the Quay Foyer resident’s lives to be revealed. Wherever You Go portrays young people at the cusp between childhood and adulthood… The fragility of this symbolic point of human life, and these young people, is beautifully articulated in these photographs.’
