First edition of 500, a signed copy. Hido describes this book as being something of a departure, bringing him back to the experiments with narrative sequencing he explored whilst still at graduate school while studying with Larry Sultan.
The series began with two photographs, the first is a studio portrait of a woman taken in the 1950s, the other a newspaper photograph showing the aftermath of an automobile accident. Hido placed the studio portrait at the beginning of the book and the newspaper photograph at the end, and then selected photographs from his own archive to trace a narrative which connects the first photograph to the last.
