The Fourth Sex: Adolescent Extremes.
(Milan): Charta and the Fondazione Pitti Imagine Discovery, (2003).

4to (254 × 198 mm), pp.400. Illustrated with black-and-white and colour photographs throughout. Texts in English. Black-and-white photo-illustrated perfect bound wrappers; very light wear to edges, small scuff to rear cover. Near-fine.

First edition. This book was published to accompany an exhibition of the same name that was shown during Men's Fashion Week in Florence. 'We wanted to make an exhibition that sucked people into the atmosphere of teenagers — without judging them,' said Simons who, then aged 35, told the New York Times he did not want to define adolescence as a period 'between 12 and 19.' It aims to examine the mental and psychological state of adolescence, and includes contributions from: David Foster Wallace, Arata Isozaki, Philip Roth, William Golding, J.G. Ballard, Beavis & Butthead, Jim Carroll, Stephen King, Vladimir Nabokov, Douglas Coupland, Dick Hebdige, Bret Easton Ellis, Dave Eggers, Vanessa Beecroft, Raymond Pettibon, Mike Kelley, Elizabeth Peyton, Karen Kilimnik, Charles Ray, David Lynch, Takashi Murakami, Larry Clark, Rineke Dijkstra, Paul McCarthy, Richard Prince, Gilbert & George, Gavin Turk, Richard Billingham, Malcolm MacLaren, Paco Rabanne, Benetton, Veronique Branquinho, Comme des Garcons, Stussy, Coca-Cola, PlayStation, Diesel, Katherine Hamnett, David Sims, and many others.
