SUPERFORMS

BAYRLE, Thomas.
Feuer im Weizen.
[Frankfurt]: März verlag, 1970.

Folio (344 x 259 mm), pp.[50]. Self-covers, red cloth backstrip, printed in yellow, red, and black; covers rubbed, light wear to edges, occasional areas of laminate lifting, spine lightly sunned and leaning. A very good copy.

First edition. Thomas Bayrle emerged as an important figure in European Pop Art of the 1960s and '70s. Feur im Weizen contains a series of what Bayrle refers to as superforms, images made of many smaller images of themselves. These serial repetitive patterns comprise of and show nude and copulating couples. For the 2012 Frieze Art Fair two designs by Bayrle were used to cover the surfaces of the entrance area and were used throughout the common areas of the fair.
