Langer’s presentation inscription in black ink on title-page. Typed letter signed by Langer laid in. Fine.

First edition, a presentation copy inscribed to Michael Hoppen: ‘Dear Michael, / Thank you for the advice and support over / the years. Your vision and knowledge is much appreciated / [signed] Jason Langer’.

After studying photography at the University of Oregon, Jason Langer worked as Michael Kenna's assistant for five years, and printed for Arthur Tress. Possession is a collection of 42 photographs drawn from five distinct series that were made between 1990 and 2012 in various cities in the United States and Europe. Bomb Magazine described his work as comprising of 'carefully crafted compositions reminiscent of the symbolist photographers, and swathes of meticulously printed deep black tones …as much Hopper and Raymond Chandler as Steichen.'
