GILL, Stephen.
Invisible.
[London]: Nobody [self-published], (2005).

Oblong 4to (255 × 299 mm), pp.64. 30 colour photographs. Text by Mark Howarth-Booth. Design by Melanie Mues. Plain endpapers. White paper-covered boards, title stamped in yellow to spine and front. Yellow dust-jacket with orange verso, title stamped in white on front. Fine.

First edition of 1000 copies, published on the occasion of an exhibition at Victoria Miro Gallery, London. ‘These photographs show us a paradox’, writes Haworth-Booth: ‘how fluorescent safety-clothing, which is intended to make workers in potentially dangerous occupations, conspicuous, can make its wearers invisible. They are the latest series by a photographer with a sustained interest in the way cities work. Here he shows us the invisible people who ensure that London and its suburbs function. It is as if the metropolis is a complicated clock which no one ever sees or rather notices being wound up.’
