Decorated satin-covered boards with a design after the hall stamped in blind to front, spine and front stamped in gilt; bottom corners gently bumped. 12pp English text and caption booklet laid in; fore-edge nicked and creased. Publisher’s printed wraparound band. Acetate dust-jacket. Publisher’s internal folder and card slipcase, spine lettered in silver; lightly toned with minor wear, head and foot of spine bumped. Near-fine in an excellent slipcase.

First edition. A photographic record of Mao Zedong’s mausoleum in Tiananmen Square, showing various stages of its construction and the finished building. Work on this Soviet-inspired memorial hall began soon after Mao died in September 1976 and was completed in May 1977. The booklet contains English translations of the captions for the photographs and Hua Kuo-Feng’s speech at the ground-breaking ceremony for laying the cornerstone on November 24, 1976.
