William Klein Prix Nadar 1957.
[Paris]: [no publisher], .
4to (310 × 238 mm), pp. with a red and a blue sheet of transparent acetate bound in as issued. Design and photographs by William Klein. Photo-illustrated wrappers with text in red; Acetate sheets slightly shrunk with age. Fine.
First edition, a pristine copy of the brochure designed by Klein to commemorate the 1957 Prix Nadar prize which was awarded to him for his book Life is Good & Good for You in New York Trance Witness Revels (1956). Apparently, Klein had wanted to include coloured acetate sheets in the original book but was told by the publisher that it would not be possible, possibly for financial reasons. This brochure is important as it gives the only clue to Klein’s original intentions for his ground-breaking first book.
The Prix Nadar is an annual award given to a photography book that is published in France. The prize was created in 1955 and continues to this day, it is awarded by a committee of photographers and publishing experts.
