Manifeste comprises of a series of texts by D’Agata which are illustrated with his photographs. D’Agata writes of his approach to photography, his influences, and his attempts to transgress the boundaries between the photographer and their subject by immersing himself in an abject lifestyle on the edges of society.

'Par l'accoutumance tenace à la douleur et à la jouissance, je décortique la mécanique de nos corps devenus pantins, soumis à la peur et au désir. J'endosse les habits du saint, les habits du fou.'

Antoine d'Agata was born in 1961 in Marseille. In 1983 he left France and travelled for the following ten years. In 1990 he attended photography courses at the ICP in New York, where he met Larry Clark and Nan Goldin. Between 1991 and 1992 he was an intern at Magnum’s New York office. In 1993 he returned to France and didn’t resume his interest in photography until two years later. Between 1999 and 2004 he was represented by Agence Vu and in 2004 he became a member of Magnum Photos. Stanley Greene was a longtime member of Agence VU before founding Noor, a new agency of which he is part-owner, in 2007.
