First edition. Jiro Takamatsu (1936-1998) was one of the most influential artists in Japan during the 1960s and ‘70s, employing photography, sculpture, painting, drawing, and performance to investigate the philosophical and material origins of art. In 1963 he co-founded the Hi Red Center collective with Genpei Akasegawa and Natsuyuki Nakanishi.

This book presents Photographs of Photographs, his seminal series which explores notions of memory and appropriation. For this work he re-photographed his family photos in various settings, the only consistent characteristic being the positioning of the photograph so that it is either distorted or partially obscured by light reflecting off of the surface.
