First edition, no. 831 of 1000. Art Intermedia was a gallery / 'action space' founded in Cologne by political journalist and art critic Helmut Rywelski. It lasted five years (1967-72), during which Rywelski formed an ambitious program that was opposed to the commercial aspects of the art world, exhibiting amongst others Dieter Roth, Joseph Beuys, Daniel Spoerri, and Robert Filliou. Rywelski referred to the space as being an Informationszentrale für audio-visuelle ereignisse [Information center for audio-visual events].

The Marksgrafik edition was so named because when it was issued the set of 10 prints sold for 10 Deutschmarks. In the introduction Rywelski writes at length about the circumstances that gave birth to the project and his concerns about the escalating prices and issues of exclusivity in the art world. He would close the gallery later this same year.
